Nelson Police investigates overnight theft from Nelson City Airport
Nelson Police said officers are investigating a break-and-enter theft that has significantly impacted Nelson Search and Rescue.
Nelson Police said the theft occurred sometime between Monday, June 24th at 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, June 25th at 9 a.m. in a storage facility at the Nelson City Airport at 91 Lakeside Drive.
Nelson Police said the suspect(s) appeared to have removed the door leading to an area where a significant amount of airport and Search and Rescue equipment was stored.
“The stolen items are not only expensive, but are integral for the regional emergency services to continue their operations effectively,” Nelson Police said in the media release.
“The complete list of stolen items is extensive, but is predominately related to Search and Rescue and communication equipment.”
Nelson Search and Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer organization that is registered with the British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) that responds to provide assistance with Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) operations and are strong supporters of “mutual aid” and frequently assist, or request assistance from, other Search and Rescue groups within the wider region.
