Castlegar is eagerly anticipating the arrival of Communities in Bloom judges on July 21. We call on our residents and businesses to join us in showcasing the beauty and community spirit of our city.

Since joining the Communities in Bloom program in 2004, Castlegar has consistently achieved recognition for its outstanding efforts, earning five blooms and winning provincial, national, and international competitions. Our most recent accolade includes the prestigious Heritage Conservation Award in 2023. This year, we are proud to participate in the Communities in Bloom Circle of Excellence category.

“With 16 dedicated volunteers, our Communities in Bloom committee plays a crucial role in maintaining the charm and cleanliness of Castlegar,” says Mayor Maria McFaddin. “Their commitment, knowledge, and hard work help our community flourish, and we are deeply grateful for their contributions.”

Community appearance is a critical aspect of the Communities in Bloom evaluation. It reflects the collective efforts of the City, local businesses, and residents to create welcoming and aesthetically pleasing public spaces. We encourage our Adopt-a-Road volunteers to conduct clean-ups and remove roadside litter before the judges’ arrival.

Adopt-a-Road volunteers, please let our Civic Works Department at 250-365-5979 or civicworks@castlegar.ca if you plan to participate in a clean-up and require Adopt-a-Road equipment. This collaborative effort is vital to presenting a clean and tidy city, not just for the judges, but also for our visitors and residents.

The Communities in Bloom Committee welcomes photos of volunteers in action during these clean-ups. These photos contribute to the judging process and can be sent to civicworks@castlegar.ca. Volunteers who register for a clean-up and submit photos will be entered into a draw to win one of two family-size pizzas.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participates in keeping our community beautiful. Your efforts as an Adopt-a-Road volunteer group are invaluable.
