KIJHL Game Day Update: Rebels fall to Chiefs in OT

Castlegar Rebels (3) at Kelowna Chiefs (4) OT

Owen Miller buried the winner for the Chiefs, who trailed 2-0, and had a 3-2 lead before the Rebels tied it at the 20-minute mark of the third period. Miller beat Jac Carli, who finished with 46 saves. Miller also had an assist, starting the play to set up Liam Munro for his 25th goal late in the second period. Cooper Barclay forced overtime with his 10th goal, beating Ethan Mann who stopped 26 of 29 shots.

Fernie Ghostriders (0) at Golden Rockets (2)

Beck Boiteau earned his first KIJHL shutout with a 26-save performance, while Hayden Iron Shirt scored twice (19) on the power-play in their victory over the Ghostriders. Kael Svenson saved 19 of 21 shots. Iron Shirt opened the scoring 5:48 into the game. The Rockets are now 4-0 against the Ghostriders this season.

Creston Valley Thunder Cats (1) at Kimberley Dynamiters (4)

After giving up the first goal to Logan Findlay of the Thunder Cats, the Dynamiters took over to earn the win, with Connor Grainger scoring the deciding goal. Carter Coutu scored twice (9) for Kimberley, with Brayden Schwartz collecting two assists and Mason Hillier saved 31 of 32 shots in his debut. Sartaj Dhami saved 37 of 41 shots for the Thunder Cats.

Columbia Valley Rockies (2) at Beaver Valley Nitehawks (1)

Piet Mierau was excellent in goal for the Rockies with a 38-save performance, while Evin Bossel came up big with the winner midway through the third period. Down one, the Nitehawks tied the game on Ayden Probe’s eighth goal 5:35 into the second period. Preston Shumate made 24 saves for Beaver Valley.

Quesnel River Rush (9) at Chase Heat (4)

A five-goal second period pushed the River Rush to victory as Simon Hamilton scored the deciding goal 9:11 into the second period. Isaiah Bagri scored twice (22), while Lynden Donald-Gorman and Brendan Kindlein each had four points. Kyan Gray made 27 saves for Quesnel. Seth Holte scored twice (3) for the Heat and Stanislav Stefaniv stopped 35 shots.

100 Mile House Wranglers (2) at Kamloops Storm (9)

The Storm opened the game with four straight goals in the first period and Kuy Schmirler’s 3-0 being the eventual winner. Teghan Mullin led Kamloops with a hat-trick (26) and Carson Werbowesky scored twice (7). Storm goalie Joshua Nuttall stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced. Hunter Edwards faced a lot of rubber stopping 47 of the 56 shots he faced. Max Kinne led the Wranglers with two points and scored his third goal.

Spokane Braves (6) at Nelson Leafs (1)

The Braves built a 4-0 lead to secure their win with Mason Lochten scoring the deciding goal with his fifth of the season. Jackson Rendall led the Braves with three points, including a goal. Jaiden Jakubowski saved 18 shots for the Braves, surrendering a goal to Ryan Williamson short-handed on a penalty-shot. Jacob Armstrong made 29 saves for Nelson.

Williams Lake Mustangs (3) at Princeton Posse (4) SO

Caleb Leischner forced the game into overtime for the Posse, but the game needed a shootout to be decided. Bryton Morrow clinched the win with his goal. Sharky Nowek was excellent with a 41-save effort. Jaxson Dikur made 32 saves for the Mustangs, while Logan Hauk scored his 20th goal. Justice Loewen scored his 20th for Princeton short-handed – the first time reaching 20 in a season in his KIJHL career.

Osoyoos Coyotes (0) at Revelstoke Grizzlies (2)

William Stewart earned his second shutout of the season, and both are against the Coyotes. He made 30 saves, while Jake Neufeld had two points, including scoring the opening goal with his 19th of the season. Ryder Hunt was busy in the Coyotes net making 42 saves. He saved all 15 shots he faced in the first period.

Grand Forks Border Bruins (5) at Sicamous Eagles (3)

Gairen Bona made an impact for the Border Bruins in his third game, scoring twice (9), including the winning goal. Austin Tellefson also scored two goals (24) and Hayden Evans had three assists – including setting up the winner. Eric Kahl made 27 saves for the win. Clayton Gillmore and Chase Campbell each had two points for the Eagles, with Gillmore setting up Campbell for his 29th goal. Dylan Spackman made 41 saves.
