Cranbrook - Suspicious occurrence report leads to recovery of a stolen vehicle
On Jan. 20, at 6:51 a.m., Cranbrook RCMP received a report of an unlicensed driver operating what was suspected to be a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of 16 Ave N, Cranbrook, according to S/Sgt Barry Graham. He said initial patrols were unsuccessful, but a second report led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Cranbrook resident.
“Further investigation revealed the involved vehicle had been stolen from a dealership overnight and sustained damage after colliding with another vehicle in the showroom during the theft,” Graham said.
On Jan. 22, Tyler Eugene Long of Cranbrook was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, breach of a probation order, break and enter, mischief over $5,000, and theft of a motor vehicle. Long remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
“It isn’t every day our team is able to recover a stolen vehicle and solve a break and enter before the owner is even aware,” Graham said. “Cranbrook RCMP appreciate the calls from the public on this and encourage others to do the same when they observe suspicious activity.”
