Board refresh takes Kootenay Film Society forward

The Kootenay Film Society took a major step forward May 31, with four important artists and filmmakers joining as directors of the Board.

The KFS welcomes Gary Deatherage, Alison Masters, Sarah Kapoor and Marty Agabob, replacing departing board members Rick Brown and Perry Ditzler, and joining remaining board members -- including President Richard Reeves, Treasurer Mark Wolfe, Secretary Kerry McArthur and Tivoli Theatre owner and operator, Bonnie Geddes.

"May 31st was an important day for the society," said President Richard Reeves following the society's annual general meeting that also highlighted the year's accomplishments, and plans going forward.  "In many ways Gary and Alison have been unofficial board members by attending almost every meeting to date and especially by being instrumental in the success of the 7th Siding Festival of Film -- even though they were not voting.  This formalizes the relationship and  strengthens it."

KFS past-President Mark Wolfe said attracting local filmmaker and industry advocate Sarah Kapoor was of special importance for the society going forward.

"Aside from being an accomplished filmmaker, Sarah's expanding role as an industry researcher and recognized proponent of motion picture development in the region will help put the KFS in a whole new register," said Wolfe. "This is just good succession planning, and Sarah's smarts and creativity are matched only by her impeccable integrity.  We couldn't be happier."

Local photographer and drone videographer Marty Agabob likewise brings a solid track record to the board.

"Marty and I have done a fair bit of corporate and special project work over the past few years and his contributions are consistently top-drawer," said Wolfe, adding that some of Marty's work will be seen in The Orchard – a feature film that Wolfe and Kerry McArthur are shooting in the Creston valley and which is expected to be completed for Spring 2022 showing (see www.theorchard-movie.com)."

The group gets down to work tonight, in the society's first regular board meeting of the new season, where 7th Siding Festival of Film details will start taking shape.
