Castlegar Remembers; 2015 ceremonies

Local Remembrance Day events are set for tomorrow, and absolutely everyone is encouraged to attend and participate.
Bob Brommeland, treasurer with the Castlegar/Robson Branch 170 of the Royal Canadian Legion, said everyone will muster at 10:30 a.m. in front of West’s department store on 6 Avenue.
“We’ll march to the Cenotaph in the Kinsman Park, arriving at roughly 10:45 a.m.,” he said, adding ceremonies will include a speech from either MLA Katrine Conroy or, should she be unable to make it on time, her representative Elaine Whitehead, and an address from the city by Mayor Lawrence Chernoff. At 11 a.m., a bugler will play Last Post, there will be two minutes of silence, then Reveille. The Mother’s Wreath will be laid by Sharon Duckworth this year.
Miss Castlegar and her princess will read the poem In Flanders Field, the Twin Rivers Choir will perform, and Rev. Greg Powell, the Legion’s chaplain, will do a prayer and benediction.
At the close of ceremonies, the crowd will head back to the legion. Upstairs, there will be hot chocolate, hot dogs, cookies, etc. for the under-19 crowd, while downstairs, adult can share a toast, memories, and an afternoon of good company and live entertainment.
