City council, at its regular meeting Monday night, voted to pay $4,350 for inclusion in a SnowSeekers promotion designed to funnel ski tourists for Rd Mountain and White Mountain through the Castlegar's regional aiport.
"The West Kootenay Regional Airport would be promoted as 'the' airport ...to access the two ski hills," said airport manager Gerry Rempel in his report to council. "As well, some of Castlegar's businesses would be promoted for lodging, (for food on the way to the resorts), etc."
The promotion will include a video fro promoting skiing in the area, which will also be aired on the Web and on Shaw TV, as well as links to the city on Red and White Mountain websites, as well as city inclusion in other promotional activities.
The Castlegar Chamber of Commerce endorsed the initiative, and ocuncillor Deb McIntosh spoke favourably of the project.
"Promotion of the Castlegar airport can bring nothing but good things," McIntosh said.
The sole voice of dissent came from councillor Gord Turner, who voted against the expenditure.
