Police have increased patrols and presence in Trail for this weekend’s Silver City Days, but RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr says that’s no negative reflection on the annual fair.

“We do get increased call volume, but I think that has more to do with an increase in population than it does with the event itself,” he said, adding most of the calls are what you’d expect to see with an influx of revellers, such as drug- and alcohol-related calls, noise complaints, etc.

In fact, he said, if anything he’s seen the amount of problematic issues decrease, not increase, over the 13 years he’s been here and part of policing the three-day celebration.

“It’s generally pretty peaceful, and a neat activity for the City of Trail,” he said, adding this weekend looks to be a fabulous one.

“The weather is beautiful – this is one of the nicest weekends for Silver City Days in recent memory,” he said. “It’s great to go down and see people enjoying themselves.”
