Fatal motorcycle crash near Needles Ferry
An Alberta woman has died after a motorcycle accident near Needles Monday, according to BC RCMP Traffic Services spokesman Const. Michael Halskov.
He said Central Kootenay RCMP were called to the scene in the 12000 block of Hwy 6 west of Needles at around 3:30 p.m., at which time they requested the attendance of the North Okanagan Traffic Services.
“It was determined that a large group of motorcyclists were travelling from Vernon to the Needles ferry when one of the motorcyclists lost control of her bike, went into the ditch and was ejected onto the highway,” Halskov said.
“She was then hit by another motorcyclist.”
The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, and the second motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Highway 6 was closed for almost six hours and reopened at 9:45 p.m.
North Okanagan Traffic Services, Southeast District Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroner’s Service investigated the collission.
