Kaslo SAR praises regional cooperation after fatal motorcycle crash
Kaslo Search and Rescue managers, Robyn and Glen Skobalski, were in charge of a search for a missing woman following a single vehicle accident with a motorcycle that went off the road on June 21 and into the Kaslo River.
One of the motorcycle occupants was able to get himself out of the river and get help. His female partner was swept down the river. Robyn and Glen with Kaslo SAR organized a search for the woman which began that evening and went until dark and then resumed again in the morning.
Other ground search and swiftwater teams were called in to assist from Revelstoke, Nelson, Castlegar, South Columbia, Rossland and Grand Forks. Chris Armstrong, B.C. Swiftwater Specialist, arrived and was able to oversee and direct the swiftwater teams and did a stellar job.
The woman was located mid afternoon and unfortunately had not survived the ordeal. This search and rescue was a great example of team work between multiple SAR teams. Kaslo Search and Rescue would like to extend their appreciation to all the teams involved as well as to the many volunteers who came out to assist with food and water and all the intricacies involved in running a multiple team command center. A special thanks to Kaslo Sourdough for use of their property for our command center.
