Got lake photos? Enter the 4th Annual Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge

May 30th, 2024

What do photos of sunsets, kayakers, herons and plastic pollution all have in common? They’re all eligible to be submitted to the 4th annual Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge! Hosted by Living Lakes Canada, this photo contest calls all lake lovers to celebrate the beauty of lakes and raise awareness of what’s threatening their incredible biodiversity.

From June 1 to July 31, Living Lakes Canada invite you to submit your favourite lake photos to one of the four categories: Lake Landscapes (your most beautiful lake pics); Lake Biodiversity (showcases a diversity of plants and animals); Lake Impacts (threats to lake health like visible pollution or human development); and a Youth Category (for young photographers aged 16 and under who have a parent’s or guardian’s permission to enter).

Everyone who enters is eligible to win! New this year, Living Lakes has partnered with Nikon Canada Ambassador and Kase Filters Global Ambassador Viktoria Haack to offer the grand prize of an online photography workshop for winners. Winners will also receive age-appropriate prizes provided by gift sponsors LUSH Cosmetics and Kicking Horse Coffee. A total of eight winners will be announced in August with a Judges’ Favourite and a Public Favourite chosen in each category.

Also new this year is the Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge’s partnership with the Canadian Conservation Photographers Collective (CCPC). In keeping with CCPC’s commitment to ethical nature photography, the 2024 Photo Challenge asks participants to follow the Code of Ethics for Nature Photography to ensure they’re prioritizing the well-being and respect of the environment and wildlife.

Submit your photos through the online submission form at lakeblitzphoto.livinglakescanada.ca OR by following Living Lakes Canada on social media and tagging Living Lakes Canada’s account in your post. Photos must appear as posts (not stories) and include the name and location of the lake in the caption, and the category of choice.

All submitted photos will be displayed in the 2024 online gallery. Each week a selection of entries will be shared on Living Lakes Canada’s social media channels. Up to one entry per day per person is permitted and the photo must have been taken in the last 12 months.

Thank you to RBC’s Tech for Nature program, Chick-Fil-A and R. Howard Webster Foundation for making the 2024 Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge possible.
