Columbia Power Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Bird as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective Sept. 1.  Ms. Bird was previously the CEO of Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc., and prior to her involvement with the Canada Line she was retained by the City of Vancouver on transportation and infrastructure projects. Jane is a lawyer and a former partner in private practice in corporate, commercial and real estate law.  While at Canada Line Rapid Transit Inc., she was responsible for the management and implementation of the Canada Line, a $2-billion, 19-km rapid transit line connecting downtown Vancouver with Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport.  “Jane brings strong project management skills to Columbia Power in that she has been able to bring a large project in on time and on budget,” said Lee Doney, Chair of Columbia Power’s board of directors. “She is experienced in working with diverse groups of stakeholders; she is exactly the right leader for our organization as we forge ahead with the development of the Waneta Expansion Project.”  The position of CEO has been vacant since Barry Chuddy resigned in July 2009. Giulio Ambrosone, Vice President, Projects and Operations and Victor Jmaeff, Vice President, Sales and Development shared the duties of acting CEO until February 2010 when Gerry Duffy, a member of CPC’s board of directors took over as special advisor to the board of directors.  “The Board would like to thank Mr. Ambrosone and Mr. Jmaeff for their commitment to the company by sharing the duties of acting CEO in addition to their regular responsibilities. As well, thanks go to Mr. Duffy for stepping in to assist the management team during a very challenging time. Columbia Power staff are to be commended for their hard work and dedication while we searched for the right CEO to take this company forward,” added Doney.  Since its inception in 1994, Columbia Power Corporation and its partner, Columbia Basin Trust, have purchased and rehabilitated the 145 MW Brilliant Dam and Generating Station, constructed the 185 MW Arrow Lakes Generating Station and the 120 MW Brilliant Expansion Project. The Partners recently announced the signing of an agreement in principle with Fortis Inc. to develop the Waneta Expansion Project near Trail, BC.  For more information about Columbia Power Corporation, please visit the Columbia Power Corporation website at: www.columbiapower.org.
