Enhanced transit service only a few short stops away?
Castlegar could be enjoying as much as double the transit service it has in the past as the city prepares to ink a deal with BC Transit, in concert with RDCK Areas I and J.
City CAO John Malcolm said improved services could be in place as soon as January 2011.
“BC Transit (after lengthy community consultation) put forward a plan for expansion in the Castlegar area,” he said. “City council and the RDCK directors for Areas I and J have discussed the plan and recommended it be approved with some changes (which include improved service for Ootischenia).”
He said not all of the details are ironed out, as yet, but residents can certainly expect increased service along Columbia Avenue, as well as out to Celgar and Interfor, not to mention to and from the college and the Complex.
“Basically, we’re looking at doubling the existing service,” he said.
Of course, the added service will mean added expense for the city, but the initiative is in keeping with stated city values that include reducing the environmental footprint and providing ample access to amenities for all residents.
