Wright sheds last tie with political life at RDCK meeting

Regional district chair and New Denver mayor Gary Wright stepped down from the board of directors last Thursday, and the group of 18 directors spent nearly 45 minutes pouring out the accolades for him.

Wright retired after 22 years in politics, including nearly one decade at the RDCK helm.

Born in Livingston, Mont., Wright attended the University of Montana before moving to Canada in 1968.

He has been a marriage counselor, traveling musician, freelance writer, liquor store manager, sailing instructor and lots of other things, as well as being engaged in municipal politics for 22 years.

Wright was mayor of New Denver since 1989 and a regional district director since 1991.

Wright and his wife Donna Jean have three children and still reside in New Denver.

New Denver councilor Ann Bunka has been appointed by New Denver council to replace Wright as New Denver’s representative on the RDCK board.
