Missing Nakusp woman found submerged in Arrows Lake after fatal car crash
Several days of search efforts have led police to the body of an 83-year-old Nakusp woman reported missing Nov. 4.The woman’s vehicle was located submerged in Arrows Lake by RCMP Air Services on Nov. 5, followed by a recovery of the deceased woman from her vehicle by the RCMP diver team.
Late afternoon on Nov. 4, the Revelstoke RCMP and Revelstoke Search & Rescue were alerted by the Nakusp RCMP of an overdue 83-year-old Nakusp resident.She had last been seen on Oct. 24 travelling to Revelstoke for an eye appointment, but had not been heard from since. On Nov. 5, the RCMP helicopter located a completely submerged vehicle in a man-made reservoir approximately 25 kilometres south of Revelstoke on Highway 23.
On the morning of Nov. 6, members of the Southeast District dive team and Revelstoke Search & Rescue recovered the single occupant from the vehicle. The next of kin were immediately notified.
Preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle went off road left, rolled down the embankment and came to rest in approximately 14 feet of water. The single female occupant was not able to escape before succumbing to the cold water. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of Southeast District traffic analyst and BC Coroners Service.
