Skier injured while backcountry skiing near Whitewater Ski Resort

Nelson Search and Rescue responded Thursday morning to a request from the Nelson RCMP a skier was injured in the Qua Creek drainage near the Whitewater Ski Resort.

 

Nelson Search and Rescue responded by helicopter with a three-person team, which one of the members was a medical doctor.

 

The skier, a 57 year-old man was located, and found to have sustained non-life threatening but severe injuries after crashing into a tree.

The skier was packaged on a stretcher and flown to the Nelson airport and then transported to the Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson by ambulance.

The male was in a party of five backcountry skiing with Wildhorse Cat Skiing operation based out of Ymir B.C.
