Trail cyclist sent to Kelowna hospital

A 57-year-old Trail resident is in hospital in Kelowna after being hit by a car (driven by another Trail resident) while on his bicycle, according to RCMP Cpl. Devon Reid.
“At approximately 8:23 p.m. on Sept. 30 … there was an accident at the intersection of Glover Road and Highway 3B in downtown Trail where a cyclist was struck by a vehicle,” he said. “The cyclist was flown to Kelowna Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
“The accident is still under investigation, however, the accident occurred after sunset and the cyclist was not wearing any reflective gear and there were no lights on the bike. This may have been a contributing factor in the accident.”
Reid said easily more than half of the cyclists he sees on the road after dark haven’t got helmets, lights, or reflective gear … and accident waiting to happen.
“Police would like to remind cyclists to use lights and reflective gear after dark to ensure they are visible to motorists.”
No charges are pending against the driver at this time, but the matter is still under investigation.
