Accident near Fairview sends six to hospital
A motor vehicle incident Saturday night/Sunday morning ended far better than it could have, with six people being transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Castlegar RCMP received the call at roughly 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, and members attended at Highway 22 near Fairview, where a car had gone off the road and over an embankment, striking several trees and a telephone pole.
Two of the passengers were able to get out of the vehicle, but four had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life.
“Alcohol was a factor,” said RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew. “There is some indication that a passenger may have been bothering the driver as they travelled.
“The investigation is ongoing.”
Police are also investigating which occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the mishap, as the vehicle only has five seatbelts.
