In what appears to have been an attempted smash-and-grab gone wrong at the Castlegar Chevron this morning, there was more ‘smash’ and less ‘grab’ than perhaps was intended.

Castlegar RCMP Cpl. Dave Johnson said the business had an alarm, and the call came in at roughly 5 a.m.

“A vehicle was utilized to breach the front area of the store,” Johnson explained. “Two males then entered the store. It’s still under investigation, whether anyone took anything.”

The perpetrators had fled by the time police arrived, but video surveillance has provided police with footage of the incident.

Johnson said it’s unclear at this time whether there might be a connection between this and a fire in the downtown core during the same time frame.
