Avalanche Canada issues 'High' risk in backcountry
Avalanche Canada is asking the public to be extremely careful when venturing into the backcountry over the next few days as recent high elevation rain has created very dangerous avalanche conditions.
“Very large natural avalanches are expected on Wednesday,” said the Avalanche Canada website warning.
“Now is an appropriate time to avoid all avalanche terrain including the run out zones of large avalanches paths.”
The Avalanche Canada warning is for the regions of Columbia, Kootenay, Cariboo and eastern Alberta near the Rockies, including Jasper, Yoho & Kootenay and Kananakis National Parks.
“Warming and heavy snow will overload the snowpack and drive the danger to HIGH,” said the Avalanche Canada warning for the Purcells.
“Surprising avalanche results may occur given our current snowpack. Conservative terrain use is essential this week and avoid overhead hazard.”
For up to date information go to the Avalanche Canada website.
The forecast is for more rain in the next few days.
