RCMP arrest suspect in Nelson jewelry store robbery
RCMP are advising the public the suspect involved in the fatal collision that claimed the life of a 35-year-old mother of four on Highway 3 near the Hope Slide has been arrested.
The suspect is allegedly involved as well in the early-morning jewelry store robbery in Nelson, is now in police custody.
“The suspect is now in police custody on an unrelated matter,” the RCMP media release said.
“No further assistance from public is requested.”
“The investigation into this incident is ongoing,” the release added.
However, Global BC News is reporting the police spotted a man driving a stolen motorcycle on the Trans-Canada Highway at around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Global BC News said police set up a road check, but the suspect evaded officers, who later found the motorcycle abandoned in Albert Canyon and arrested Cortez as he allegedly tried to break into a resort cabin.
Albert Canyon is located between Glacier and Mount Revelstoke National Parks east of Revelstoke.
The suspect is believed to be the same man who allegedly broke into Ted Allen’s Jewelry store in Nelson Monday, September 11, 2017.
The suspected stole items and caused damage to the tune of $30,000.
RCMP said no further details are available at this time. However, Global BC is reporting the suspect faces several charges in Revelstoke, including assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
