Massive vehicle fire closes Hwy 3
Highway 3 toward Grand Forks was closed yesterday afternoon after a vehiclke caught fire, according to Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio.
He said the call came in at roughly 3:40 p.m. Wednesday and crews arrived on scene by 3:48 p.m., with 10 firefighters, including Lattanzio.
“When I arrived on scene, it was fully engulfed,” he said, adding it was a Ford Excursion towing a storage trailer. “Traffic was stopped in both directions.
“We knocked it down fairly quickly, but the vehicle was a total write-off,” he added. “The sole occupant, the driver, was unharmed.
He said that, while the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, no foul play is suspected – just bad luck.
“We think it was fuel related, perhaps a ruptured fuel line.
