Fire Crews keep Bombi fire steady at 35 hectares despite heat, wind

As of 2:01 p.m. today (July 13) fire crews have done excellent work at stopping the spread of the Beavervale Creek fire, despite incredibly high temperatures.
The fire, roughly 12.5 km southeast of Castlegar on the Bombi sumit, was discovered July 10, and the cause of it remains undetermined at this time.
BC Wildfire Service is reporting 28 firefighters, two helicopters and six pieces of heavy equipment are attacking the blaze.
“The excursion near the powerlines was challenged with spotting yesterday (July 12) but ground crews were quick to spot it and put it out with support from helicopters. On the main fire today (July 13), ground crews will continue to construct a fuel free by hand and then backup that hand line with hose lay on the west and southwest corners, effectively tying it in with the machine guard,” BCWS said. “Specialized crews will continue with danger tree assessing and danger tree falling ahead of the hose lay.
“Helicopters will continue to support ground crews by bucketing the fire throughout the day. Heavy equipment remains available to support as needed.”
This is not an interface fire, and no highways are closed as a result.
