Kootenay cadets compete in marksmanship competition

The cadet marksmanship competition was held last weekend for the Sea, Army and Air cadets in the Kootenays.

A total of 41 cadets competed.

On Saturday, cadets from Nelson, Trail and Castlegar were at the Trail Armory.

On Sunday, cadets from Golden, Invermere, Cranbrook, Creston, Fernie and the Elk Valley were in Cranbrook Armory.

The winner of the competition was 531 Trail air cadet squadron with a score of 1421 out of 1600. The cadets from Trail will now compete in the provincial competition at Vernon in April. Second place went to 279 Elk Valley air cadets with a score of 1272 and close behind was 561 Nelson air cadets with a score of 1266.

The top junior shot was Linnea Ladwer of the Trail air cadets with a score of 344 out of 400. Second was Etienne Kennedy of Elk Valley air cadets with a 331 score.

Third and fourth places were Nelson air cadets Charlotte Faragher with a score of 317 and Mercy Ward with a score of 302.
