GoFundMe page set up for Nelson family
The community is rallying around a Nelson family suffering from the shock of tragic news.
A GoFundMe page has been started to support the Jackman family, following the death of their son Nathan.
“With heavy hearts our dear friends Tammy and Derrick Jackman have had the greatest loss any parent can possibly imagine,” the GoFundMe page said.
RCMP did not release the name of the driver, but said that on Sunday (May 5, 2024) at approximately 12:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision which occurred north of Nelson in the 1400 block of Highway 31, near Queens Bay.
RCMP said first responders attempted lifesaving techniques on both the driver and single passenger, but the driver was pronounced deceased at the accident scene.
RCMP said the passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“RCMP would like to offer their condolences to the families that were affected in this tragic incident and thank the witnesses for their assistance at the scene,” police said.
The GoFundMe post said that Nathan was only weeks away from high school graduation after completed a successful rookie campaign with the Castlegar Rebels of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, with a bright, promising future ahead of him.
