RDCK residents soundly reject curbside collection for Defined Area Area F & H

Curbside collection for household waste is not coming anytime soon to Defined Area F & H in the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
Voters overwhelmingly rejected curbside collection service by more than 85 percent in a separate referendum Saturday for Defined Area F and H.
The question of:
Are you in favour of the Regional District of Central Kootenay adopting Defined Areas F & H Curbside Collection Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2933, 2023, which will permit the Regional District to establish a 3 stream curbside collection service with waste, organics and recycling for defined portions of Electoral Areas F & H; which if approved will result in an annual requisition not to exceed $596,235.28 based on a cost per household of $280.02?
Voting was held at the RDCK office in Nelson and Crescent Valley Hall Saturday.
The unofficial numbers released by the RDCK had 1157 people turning out with 1025 voting No to 131 Yes. There was one spoiled/rejected ballot.
The more than 1100 residents voting was 30 per cent of the voting list in RDCK defined Area F & H.
Curbside collection service, comprising garbage, recycling and organic waste, was offered within potential service area boundaries.
Costs of the service — based on other similar, rural service programs in the province — was estimated from $160 to $265 per household per year, which works out to $13.30 to $22 per month.
In another curbside collection service referendum in Defined Area J, residents also rejected the proposal with 830 people voting No out of 936 ballots at the Castlegar Community Complex polling station.
