Play it safe around BC Hydro reservoirs
Play it safe when boating or swimming this summer. Our reservoirs can be enjoyable recreation destinations, but it’s important to practice common sense safety precautions.
Because the water in our reservoirs is used for flood control and the production of electricity, reservoir water levels can rise or fall daily. Changing water levels can conceal submerged hazards, particularly in shallow water near the shoreline. Visitors and reservoir users should be aware of these potential dangers and take precautions to stay safe.
Boating, fishing, and swimming above or below a dam or generating station can be very dangerous. For your own safety and the safety of those with you, obey all warning signs and stay out of restricted areas. Boaters must comply with all Canadian Coast Guard regulations and practice safe boating at all times.
