In the early morning of May 17, frontline officers with the Slocan Lake RCMP made a significant drug seizure while en-route to a disturbance call, according to Nakusp RCMP Detachment Commander Cpl. Thomas Gill.

“At approximately 4 a.m., an officer came across a vehicle in a ditch near Silverton. The vehicle’s occupants, a male and a female, appeared asleep,” Gill said. “The officer stopped to check on their well-being and discovered evidence indicating recent drug activity.”

He said further examination, led the officer to suspect drug trafficking, and the two occupants were detained for Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Subsequent inspection of the vehicle revealed significant amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine, as well as items believed to be stolen property – enough to drug the entire community.

“This seizure is particularly notable for the Slocan Valley,” said Gill. “The quantity of drugs recovered is enough to supply every citizen in our community with a dose of these highly toxic and dangerous substances.”

RCMP said the two individuals were released without charges, pending further investigation. The vehicle was seized and will be referred to the Civil Forfeiture Office, as it appears related to the proceeds of crime.

“The RCMP is committed to the safety and well-being of our community,” Gill added.

“This seizure underscores our ongoing dedication to combating drug trafficking and its associated crimes. We will continue to work tirelessly to keep illegal and dangerous substances off our streets.”
