In what could arguably be called an unusual set of circumstances, police responded to a complaint yesterday of a dinosaur blocking traffic on Kinnaird Bridge in Castlegar.

According to RCMP Cpl. Debbie Postnikoff, police responded at about 2:45 p.m. and found a “massive”, roughly-four-foot stuffed dinosaur that was, indeed, presenting a possible traffic hazard.

“Because of the rain, it was in pretty rough shape, so the officer removed it to his car,” she said. “It was disposed of locally.”

Police were unable to determine the origin of the dinosaur, but Postnikoff said there were a variety of scenarios that could explain its presence, such as kids playing a pre-Hallowe’en prank, or perhaps the wind blowing it off a moving truck or dump load.

Postnikoff said she has never before, in her 21 years of service, seen police respond to a call about a stuffed animal and/or a dinosaur.

“Yes, this is a first,” she said adding the take-home message for the public is, “We respond to all calls. All of them.”

The investigation is not ongoing.
