Slow season start for Rebels

The Castlegar Rebels struggled through the season-opener this weekend, tying a game against Beaver Valley Nitehawks Friday and falling to the Nelson Leafs Saturday.
Both games were on home ice at the Complex, with Friday ending in a 3-3 tie, and Saturday bringing a 5-0 blow out.
The slow start wasn’t entirely unexpected, as head coach and general manager Brent Heaven poitned out the Rebels are working with almost an entirely new team this year, with veteran players heading on to bigger and better things after lat year’s season.
He said it’ll take some time to hammer out the final line-up and allow the players to gel as a team – then look out, as they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
“We’re a desirable team that attracts desireable players – parents want to see their kids on a team that focusses on the big picture, not just hockey. We help develop our players in all aspects of their lives,” he said.
The Rebels head to Spokane next weekend to face off against the Braves on Friday before heading to Beaver Valley on Saturday to clip some Nitehawk wings.
