The Selkirk College Saints made the first road trip a memorable one as the Kootenay-based team doubled the University of the Fraser Valley 6-3 in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League play Friday at at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

Former Nelson Leaf snipers, Caleb Georgetti of Nelson and Scott Jago of Castlegar, provided the offence, as Selkirk exploded for four second period goals in a span of 4:54.

Georgetti, with a pair, Jago and Logan Simpson scored for the winners after the Cascades scored first.

Fraser Valley was quick out of the gates in the third period and made the game close, as back-to-back goals from Travis Gorman and Graham Fast drew the Cascades within one.

But Leighton Allsop’s goal at the midway point of the period provided insurance before Caleb Roy scored into an empty net with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Cascades found themselves in penalty trouble for much of the game, as Mike Wilson and Chris Price picked up cross-checking and elbowing majors in the first and second periods respectively. And the Saints made their hosts pay with the man-advantage, striking for three goals in the second and finishing 3-for-7 on the night.

Georgetti was named the game’s first star with two goals — including the game winner — and three points, while Roy and Allsop each scored and assisted. Spensor Wong was strong between the pipes for the Saints, making 37 saves on a night where his team was outshot by a 40-28 margin.

Cullen, Gorman and Nathan Sagert each had two points in the defeat for Fraser Valley, who received 23 saves from netminder Rhys Chesney.

Next up for the Saints is a home game double header against Simon Fraser University on Nov. 5 at 7pm and Nov. 6 at 4pm, all at the Castlegar Complex.
