As the snow meltwaters trickle downhill to become the spring freshet, so the Dam City Rollers’ pre-season practices and scrimmages have been gathering momentum to become a force to reckon with in the season opening bout set for 5 pm on Saturday, April 13th at the Rossland Arena!

Women’s flat track roller derby is alive and well in the West Kootenay, and the slumbering beast is about to awaken and bring the thrill of the bout to spectators throughout our region in the 2013 season.

The season opener will be a double header, with Castlegar’s Dam City Rollers first up, bouting against Salmo’s Babes of Brutality.  While it’s true that the Dam City Rollers have yet to best the Babes, insiders have said that this may well be the year that the scales are tipped in favour of the Dams.  Both teams have refreshed their rosters since last season, with the Dam City Rollers benefitting from the fresh energy of newly-elected captain Kitty Karnage, an influx of skilled transfers from the defunct Nelson Lumberjackies, and some extremely promising new players straight from their Fresh Meat training.   Despite fresh blood and renewed enthusiasm on the part of both teams, the rivalry remains, and the Dams are out to wash the Babes downstream in this much-anticipated matchup.

Once the track has been mopped up following the evening’s initial bout, one of the newest WKRD teams, the Rossland-Trail Rollergirls (RTRG), will bout in their home arena against Nelson’s Killjoys.    Although the RTRG may be a new team, that does not mean it lacks experience – made up of members from the now defunct Bad News Betties (Trail) and Gnarlie’s Angels (Rossland), rumor has it that these are some rollergirls who are ready to rumble – but not if the Killjoys have anything to say about it.
