Rossland's Brenan Moroney off to Missouri Valley in September

Zone One West Kootenay Junior Golf coordinator Rob McKay announced Monday that golfer Brenan Moroney has inked a letter of intent to play golf in September at Missouri Valley in Marshal Missouri.

“Brenan is a very strong player who has represented Zone 1 in five straight BC Junior Championships, has been the overall winner in Zone 1 and is currently a valuable member of the RSS (Rosslland Secondary School) Golf team,” McKay explained.

McKay said Moroney the power in his golf swing to make the transition to the longer college courses.

The Missouri Valley athletics department released a statement today saying,  “Brenan joins two other top freshman recruits as MVC golf coach Jordan Dickson rebuilds the men’s golf team to compete at top level in NAIA competition. “

Moroney recently qualified to represent Zone One at the B.C. Junior Golf Championships this summer in Revelstoke.

Tyler McKay, David Launier of Rock Creek and Isaac Janzen of Creston round out the team.

Another Zone One West Kootenay Junior Golf grad Josh Coletti of Nelson is currently finishing up his senior year at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri.

The L.V. Rogers Bomber grad recently earned Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for his performance at the Missouri Valley College Invitational in April.

Coletti, who toiled with Bombers during his high school days and has been a constant player at the B.C. Men’s Amateur the past few years, finished the Invitational tied for second place after posting a 36-hole total of 148 (+4) at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall, Mo.

McKay and Moroney will get a chance to show off their talents when  Birchbank is plays host to the B.C. High School A Golf Championships May 26-28. Players representing schools from throughout the province will be attending the 36-hole tournament.
