Nichol's Castlegar rink rallies to capture Senior Men's Kootenay Playdowns
The Myron Nichol rink of Castlegar, with two Nelson curlers on the squad, took the long way but came out on top at the Senior Men’s Kootenay Playdowns Sunday in Kimberley.
Nichol, third Bill Van Yzerloo, second Gary Beaudry and lead Barry Marsh, the last two, respectively, from Nelson, edged Ken McHargue of Elkford/Cranbrook 7-6 in the deciding game to capture the Kootenay title.
The rink now represents the zone at the BC Senior Men’s Championships February 17-22 in Port Alberni.
Starting off the four-team double knockout tournament by stopping Rob Ferguson of Trail in six ends, the Nichol rink lost to McHargue in the A final.
Nichol then bounced Nando Salviulo of Nelson in B event play before defeating McHargue twice — 8-4 in the B final and 7-6 in the A-B final.
Curling spiel at Nelson Club
