BC Chamber of Commerce Statement on Canada Post Strike

In response to the decision by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to commence strike activity across the country today, Fiona Famulak, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement:

“The BC Chamber of Commerce is concerned that the strike by Canada Post workers is going to impact millions of British Columbians and tens of thousands of businesses across the province. In particular, small businesses in rural and remote communities that rely on Canada Post as the only cost-effective way to get their goods to customers are going to be impacted the most.

“The timing of the disruption is very unfortunate. As we approach the busy holiday season, this is another hit to businesses that are finding it increasingly hard to keep their doors open. Furthermore, this work stoppage adds yet another layer of disruption to our national supply chains, which are already struggling from the recent shutdowns of our ports.

“BC Chamber of Commerce supports collective bargaining. The best deals are the ones reached at the negotiating table. We therefore urge both Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to return to bargaining and find a mutually agreeable solution as quickly as possible.”
