Swanson captains Hawks to 6-3 victory over Heat in KIJHL Championship opener
Captain Sam Swanson scored twice to lead the Beaver Valley Nitehawks to a convincing 6-3 victory over the Chase Heat in the opening game of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Championship Monday night in Fruitvale.
Game two of the best-of-five League Final is set for Tuesday in Beaver Valley.
Tyler Hartman, adding two assists to finish the game with three points, Bradley Ross, Mitch Foyle and Jake Yuris also scored for the regular season champions.
Swanson also had three points in the game.
Josh Bourne, Zachary Fournier and Travis Beaubien replied for the Heat.
Beaver Valley, which broke open the game with four second period goals, held period leads of 1-0 and 5-3.
The Hawks also outshot the Heat 35-31.
Tallon Kramer, winning for the 12th time in the playoffs against two losses, was in goal to register the win for the Nitehawks.
Nic Bruyere took the loss in goal for the Heat.
The series shifts to Chase for Game three, Thursday, and four, if necessary, Friday.
If a fifth and deciding game is needed it will be played Sunday April 2 back at the Fruitvale Arena.
